EMDR Trauma Therapy

Specialized healing for traumatic experiences

Trauma can leave lasting imprints on both your mind and body, affecting how you feel about yourself, relate to others, and navigate daily life. Whether you've experienced a single traumatic event or ongoing difficult experiences, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy offers a proven path toward healing and recovery.

Types of trauma we address with EMDR:

Single-Incident Trauma - Car accidents, assaults, natural disasters, or other one-time traumatic events

Complex Trauma - Repeated traumatic experiences, often beginning in childhood, that affect development and relationships

Medical Trauma - Distressing experiences related to medical procedures, surgeries, ICU stays, or life-threatening diagnoses

Vicarious Trauma - Trauma exposure through your work with trauma survivors or witnessing others' traumatic experiences

Developmental Trauma - Early life experiences of neglect, abuse, or attachment disruption that continue to impact adult life

Military or First Responder Trauma - Experiences related to military service, emergency response, or high-stress occupational exposure

Sexual Trauma - Healing from sexual assault, abuse, or other forms of sexual violence

You might be experiencing:

  • Intrusive memories, flashbacks, or nightmares about traumatic events
  • Feeling emotionally numb or disconnected from yourself and others
  • Hypervigilance or feeling constantly "on edge"
  • Avoiding places, people, or situations that remind you of the trauma
  • Intense emotional reactions that feel disproportionate to current situations
  • Negative beliefs about yourself like "I'm not safe" or "It's my fault"
  • Physical symptoms like headaches, muscle tension, or sleep difficulties
  • Difficulty trusting others or forming close relationships

Our specialized EMDR approach:

EMDR helps your brain process traumatic memories so they no longer trigger intense emotional or physical reactions. We use advanced EMDR techniques including:

Standard EMDR Protocol - The eight-phase approach that helps reprocess disturbing memories and install positive beliefs

Flash Technique - A specialized EMDR intervention that can significantly reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic memories before full processing, making treatment more comfortable and accessible

Resource Installation - Building internal strengths and positive resources to support your healing journey

Recent Traumatic Event Protocol - Specialized approach for processing trauma that occurred within the past few months

What you can expect:

EMDR trauma therapy begins with preparation and building safety and coping skills before processing traumatic memories. The Flash Technique can often provide significant relief early in treatment, reducing the emotional charge of memories and making them easier to work with.

We'll work at your pace, ensuring you feel safe and supported throughout the process. Many clients find that EMDR helps them process trauma more efficiently than traditional talk therapy alone, often with lasting results.

Sessions are available in-person at our Calgary office or online throughout Alberta, Nunavut, and Quebec. While in-person sessions are often preferred for EMDR work, online sessions can be effective when needed.

You don't have to let past trauma continue to control your present life. EMDR therapy can help you heal from what happened so you can move forward with greater freedom and peace.
