General Questions
What is your approach to therapy?
I use an integrated approach that recognizes the connection between mental and physical health. Rather than treating symptoms in isolation, I look at how psychological factors affect your overall wellbeing. I combine evidence-based therapies like EMDR, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to provide comprehensive care tailored to your specific needs.
Are you accepting new clients?
Yes, I am currently accepting new clients for individual therapy, couples therapy, and psychological assessments. Contact me to discuss your needs and schedule an initial consultation.
What are your qualifications?
I am a Registered Psychologist (Practice Permit #8231) with the College of Alberta Psychologists. I hold a Master's in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and a Bachelor of Commerce from Concordia University. I maintain ongoing training in specialized areas including EMDR therapy and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
Do you work with teenagers?
I primarily work with adults (18+). Currently, I focus on adults and couples seeking individual therapy, couples therapy, and psychological assessments.
Costs & Insurance
How much does therapy cost?
I follow the standard fees as outlined by the Psychologists Association of Alberta (PAA) for Registered Psychologists (including for clients from Nunavut and Quebec):
- Individual Therapy - $235/hr (50 Minute Session)
- Couples & Relationship Counselling - $352.50/hr (75 Minute Session)
How much do assessments cost?
The rate for assessments is based on the number of sessions required to complete the assessment (generally 1-3 sessions), the cost of assessment instruments used, and whether a brief or comprehensive report is needed. I am happy to provide an estimate prior to beginning the assessment process, and discuss during an initial free consultation.
Is therapy covered by my insurance plan?
Yes, plans that accept the services of a Registered Psychologist will cover my services. I provide receipts and documentation that you can submit to your extended health insurance plan for reimbursement. I can also provide documentation for Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) when applicable.
Scheduling Appointments
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can contact me by phone, email, or through the contact form on this website. I'll respond within 24-48 hours to schedule your initial consultation and answer any questions you may have.
What are your office hours?
I offer flexible scheduling including evening and weekend appointments to accommodate busy schedules, shift work, and those with demanding careers. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, with extended hours available as needed.
How long is each therapy session?
Individual and couples therapy sessions are typically 50-60 minutes. Psychological assessments vary in length depending on the type:
- ADHD assessments: 2-3 hours over one or two sessions
- MVA evaluations: 2-4 hours depending on complexity
- Comprehensive diagnostic assessments: 3-5 hours over multiple sessions
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
I understand that life happens and flexibility is important. I ask for 24-48 hours notice when possible for cancellations or rescheduling. For healthcare professionals and first responders, I recognize that emergencies and shift changes may require last-minute adjustments.
Getting Started
What should I expect in the first session?
The first session focuses on understanding your concerns, goals, and background. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your history, and develop a plan for moving forward. It's a collaborative process where you can ask questions and determine if we're a good fit for working together.
How do I know if therapy is working?
Most people begin noticing positive changes within the first few sessions, though everyone's timeline is different. We'll regularly check in about your progress and adjust our approach as needed to ensure you're getting the support you need.
What if I don't feel comfortable with therapy at first?
It's completely normal to feel nervous or uncertain about starting therapy. I create a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can share at your own pace. We can discuss any concerns and adjust our approach to help you feel more comfortable.
How long will I need therapy?
The length of therapy varies greatly depending on your goals, the complexity of your concerns, and your personal preferences. Some people benefit from short-term focused work, while others prefer longer-term support. We'll discuss this throughout our work together and you're always in control of when to end therapy.
