Grief Counselling
Compassionate support through loss and life transitions
Grief is one of life's most difficult experiences, yet it's also deeply personal and unique to each individual. Whether you're mourning the death of a loved one, facing the end of a relationship, dealing with job loss, or grieving other significant changes in your life, you don't have to navigate this journey alone.
Common grief experiences we help with:
Bereavement Grief - Processing the death of a spouse, parent, child, family member, friend, or pet
Anticipatory Grief - Mourning that begins before a loss occurs, such as during a terminal illness diagnosis
Complicated Grief - When grief becomes prolonged or intense in ways that interfere with daily functioning
Disenfranchised Grief - Losses that aren't socially recognized, such as miscarriage, estrangement, or loss of a role or identity
Relationship Loss - Grieving the end of marriage, divorce, or significant relationships
Life Transition Grief - Mourning changes like retirement, empty nest syndrome, loss of health, or major life shifts
Collective Grief - Processing shared losses or traumatic events that affect communities
You might be experiencing:
- Intense sadness, anger, guilt, or emotional numbness
- Difficulty accepting the reality of your loss
- Yearning or searching for what or who you've lost
- Feeling like you're "going crazy" or losing your mind
- Physical symptoms like fatigue, changes in appetite, or sleep difficulties
- Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
- Feeling disconnected from others or like no one understands
- Wondering if you'll ever feel "normal" again
Our approach to grief counselling:
Grief is not something to "get over" but rather to move through with support and understanding. We use compassionate, evidence-based approaches including Emotion Focused Therapy, CBT, and EMDR when trauma is involved. Our grief counselling may include:
- Creating a safe space to express all the emotions that come with loss
- Understanding that grief has no timeline and looks different for everyone
- Processing the story of your loss and what it means to you
- Exploring ways to maintain connection with what you've lost while moving forward
- Addressing guilt, regret, or unfinished business related to your loss
- Building new routines and finding meaning after loss
What you can expect:
Grief work is deeply personal and happens at your own pace. There's no "right" way to grieve, and healing doesn't mean forgetting or "moving on" from your loss. Instead, we'll work together to help you carry your grief in a way that allows you to live fully while honoring what you've lost.
Sessions are available in-person at our Calgary office or online throughout Alberta, Nunavut, and Quebec. Many clients find that having professional support helps them navigate their grief journey with greater understanding and self-compassion.
Your grief matters, and so do you. Let us provide the support you need during this difficult time.
